With over 80 years of expertise, Jackson Jewelers offers repair services as part of our commitment to our clients. When you buy from us, our ability to service and care for your piece for years to come is part of what you're investing in.
Our repair services are reserved for jewelry purchased at Jackson Jewelers. We do not offer general jewelry repair for items purchased elsewhere. In limited circumstances, our team may approve an exception for a genuine family heirloom handed down through generations. Please text us before bringing in an outside heirloom piece.

Do you repair jewelry purchased elsewhere?
No. We do not offer general repair services for jewelry purchased elsewhere. Repair is reserved for jewelry purchased at Jackson Jewelers. This is one of the real benefits of shopping with us: we're here to take care of your piece for years to come.
Our team may consider a limited exception for a genuine family heirloom, as explained below.
Do you repair heirloom pieces not purchased at Jackson Jewelers?
We may consider a limited exception for a genuine family heirloom handed down through generations, but acceptance is not automatic.
Please text 503-363-5640 to tell us about the piece, its history, and the work needed before bringing it in. Our team will let you know whether we can consider it for an in-person assessment. Final acceptance depends on the piece's condition and the work required.
You've repaired something for me before that wasn't purchased here, can you still help?
We understand that we may have helped with outside jewelry in the past. Our current repair services, however, are reserved for jewelry purchased at Jackson Jewelers. Past service does not establish eligibility for future repairs.
Genuine family heirlooms may be considered through the review process described above. We do not make other exceptions for jewelry purchased elsewhere.
What metals do you work on?
For eligible pieces, we work on gold, including all karats and white gold, as well as platinum. We do not work on silver unless it was originally purchased at Jackson Jewelers.
A piece being gold or platinum does not, by itself, make it eligible for repair.
How do I get started with a repair?
For jewelry purchased at Jackson Jewelers, you're welcome to stop by during business hours. We'll assess your repair needs in person and do our best to provide an approximate cost estimate. Walk-ins are welcome, but we cannot guarantee immediate assistance.
For a genuine family heirloom not purchased here, please text us before bringing it in so our team can determine whether we can consider it for assessment.

What repair services do you offer?
The following repair services are available for jewelry purchased at Jackson Jewelers and outside family heirlooms approved by our team, subject to assessment.
Cleaning & Finishing
- Jewelry Cleaning: simple cleaning done in-store, walk-ins welcome, subject to staff availability.
- Polishing: restore the shine and brilliance of your jewelry. This requires leaving your item with us.
- Rhodium Plating: renew the bright white finish of your white gold jewelry.
Sizing & Structural
- Ring Sizing: adjust your ring to the right size for a comfortable fit.
- Ring Shank Replacement: replace worn or damaged ring shanks for enhanced durability.
- Ring Soldering: permanently join two rings together, such as an engagement ring and wedding band, for a seamless and secure fit.
- Bracelet Repair: repair broken links or damaged bracelets.
- Chain Soldering: repair broken or damaged chains.
- Chain Shortening and Lengthening: adjust the length of your chain for the right fit.
- Clasp Replacement: replace worn or broken clasps on necklaces and bracelets.
- Pearl Restringing: restring pearl necklaces and bracelets. This is sent out to a specialist and may have a longer turnaround time than standard repairs.
Stone & Setting Work
- Prong Tightening and Retipping: reinforce and repair prongs to keep your stones secure.
- Stone Tightening and Replacement: ensure gemstones are secure and replace lost stones.
- Center Crown Replacement: replace worn or damaged center crowns that hold your main stone securely. Our diamond setters are highly skilled, ensuring careful resetting of your center stone.
Other
- Earring Repair: replace or repair posts, backs, and hinges on earrings.
- Earring Conversion and Resetting: convert clip-on earrings to posts or posts to clips, and reset existing earrings.
- Engraving: we offer both machine and hand engraving. The same repair eligibility requirements apply.
Will you set a stone I bought somewhere else?
No, we're not able to set stones purchased elsewhere. If you're looking to have a stone set, we'd be happy to help you select one from us as part of a custom design or new piece.
Resetting existing stones from an approved family heirloom may be considered as part of a restoration or remake. This does not extend to separately purchased outside stones.
How much does jewelry repair cost?
All formal repair services start at a base charge of $200 and are priced based on the scope of work required.
In most cases, we'll assess your piece in person and proceed with the repair at the fairest price possible. Written estimates are available on a case-by-case basis for larger or more complex projects. Please request one when we assess your piece if needed.
The full scope of a repair isn't always determinable upfront, so final pricing may vary based on conditions discovered during the repair process.
Is jewelry cleaning included with repair?
Complimentary in-store cleaning is available at no charge while you wait, subject to staff availability. No appointment is necessary.
Will you refinish my ring for free?
No, refinishing (polishing) is a paid service and requires leaving your ring with us. Our base shop charge applies.
What is Jewelry Restoration?
Jewelry Restoration is our elevated level of service for clients whose needs go beyond a standard repair. This may include pieces requiring multiple services, significant alterations, custom enhancements, or a level of skilled work that exceeds what a basic repair can address.
Restoration is priced higher than standard repair and is quoted on a case-by-case basis after a full assessment of your piece and your goals. The same repair eligibility requirements apply.
What expert services do you offer beyond standard repair?
For eligible pieces, we offer:
- Restoration Services: ideal for clients looking to make significant changes or enhancements to an existing piece, or for items requiring extensive work across multiple areas. Our team will assess your piece, discuss your vision, and provide a detailed estimate for a full restoration plan.
- Remake Services: when the scope of changes requested or the condition of the piece makes restoration less practical or more costly than starting fresh, a full remake may be the smarter solution. We salvage your existing stones and meaningful elements and reset them into a brand new piece, giving your jewelry a second life while preserving what matters most. This is also ideal for rings that have been cut off due to finger enlargement or pieces that are structurally beyond repair.
- Custom Open and Close Shanks for Enlarged Knuckles: in partnership with Cliq, we offer a custom hinge band solution for clients experiencing difficulty wearing rings due to enlarged knuckles. This design allows for a comfortable, secure fit, and we'll evaluate whether this solution is right for you.
How long does jewelry repair take?
For most repairs, the typical turnaround time is 3-4 weeks from the date of drop-off. You'll receive a text or call when your repair is complete and ready for pickup. If additional time is needed, or your piece requires the expertise of one of our designers, we'll notify you in advance.
Every repair is completed in the order it's received and given the individual time and care it deserves. If you haven't heard from us after 5 weeks, please text 503-363-5640, and we'll be happy to provide an update.
Can you decline a repair after looking at it?
Yes. Eligibility for an assessment does not guarantee that we can accept the repair. We'll evaluate whether the piece can be repaired to meet Jackson Jewelers' standards. If we don't feel we can complete the work to that standard, we'll let you know and decline the repair rather than take on work we're not confident in.
Do you require a deposit before starting a repair?
Not always. For more complex projects, we may require a deposit before work begins. We'll let you know when we assess your piece if that applies.
What if my repair is high risk?
Some pieces carry more risk than others, due to age, wear, thin metal, or delicate settings. If we feel a repair is high risk but agree to take it on anyway, we'll tell you upfront, and we're not able to guarantee the outcome on that work.
What is Jackson Jewelers' repair promise?
When we take on your repair, you have our full commitment to doing the best work possible within the limitations of your item. Our reputation has been built over 80 years, and we stand behind everything that leaves our shop, unless we've told you ahead of time that we can't warranty a particular repair. We stand behind the specific work performed on the repaired item, but this does not make us responsible for other repairs or issues not addressed as part of that work.
Center stones are never covered by Jackson Jewelers, regardless of whether we sold the piece or performed work on the setting. If a center stone comes loose, falls out, or is lost, that's a matter for your jewelry insurance.
Who do you recommend if you can't do the repair?
We recommend checking out the other shops in Salem to see if they're interested in helping you, but we're not able to give a specific recommendation of who to see.
